Last meal. Not sure what it was but I'm pretty sure we only ate bread and butter

This is my last meal before hitting the mountain.... It was awful pizza...but in Moshi, Tanzania it was not bad I suppose....

Lunch on the first day, our guide stopped and picked it up on our drive from Moshi from a roadside vendor.

The only washing and cleaning we did for this week revolved around this little plastic tub of hot water that they boiled for us each night.

Lunch for the second day. I think this was originally a bun with butter and a green pepper slice on it....i took the green pepper out...is that supposed to be a sandwich?

In the wilderness of Tanzania on the slopes of Kilimanjaro, our guide has cell phone reception.

I meal I like! not that weird soup that seemed to be exactly the same everynight even though they called it something different...not that orange stuff...the pasta!

This is "base camp". The point from which we will launch our feeble attempt to climb the mountain.

This moment is significant. The moment in the rain, I was tired, feeling like I was in way over my head (it was still the first day). This is the moment that I longed to be in Kabul and to have a nice grilled cheese sandwich.

Our first view of Mt Kilimanjaro from the airplane from Nairobi to Kilimanjaro Airport. The pilot said we were flying at 17,000 feet, Kilimanjaro is over 19,000 ft.....

Kristin is also super excited...we are both somewhat feeling slight worried about the hike...

Welcome to the Jungle...The first leg of our journey was through the rain forest...

...and the first night's dinner. Well, the first part of it, I think there was some meat or something later on. Needless to say, I ate mostly the frenchfries and the bread

Breakfast. This meal was essentially the same everyday. It included some porrage that tasted like peanuts, some sausages that were kinda like a hot dog, some scrambled eggs we were afraid to eat and of course, our bread in butter, which was bread and butter.

Kristen gets really excited to see the bathrooms at the end of our hike on day 2.
